If they're going to force this down our throats, you'd think they'd at least attempt to make it a little more palatable. These terms would choke a horse...they're obnoxious. We are their CUSTOMERS, afterall, and I'd venture to guess that at least a few of us paid our GENUINE hard-earned dollars to buy LEGAL copies of Microsoft Windows. Idiots. How could they possible think resentment wouldn't build over terms like those? When you treat your customers like this -- I don't care who you are -- it comes around eventually.
Limited access to authenicate xp on old system
I am totaly frustrated with MSoft shutting down my XP system. I bought a used computer with 2 high end embrodery machines. After 6 months, now the computer will not start up --- it asks me to register xp - why now, no warnings before it goes to this state, it's costing me several hundred dollars a day. The basics - the computer is not connected to the web, it's dedicated to the 2 manufacturing machines, and and what's the most troubling - there was no warning messages that the system might have a "authenication"/"validation" issue before it just shut down. Now that it is asking to validate the XP system. I can't do anything on the system --- can't access MS for any info, no request screen to enter MS op sys secure code - nothing ---- one screen - no options, can't get to safe mode - nothing ..... I'm dead in the water - and the MS support team -that might be able to help is not available on weekends. I can't even back up the applications that I have on the system - and I'm sure that MSoft really doesn't care about that either. . . .
Here is the real issue. I would be glad to validate the XP op sys and even pay for it, if for some reason the previous owner of the system was not fully authorized--- however, the XP op system will not allow me to pursue any of those options!!!!!
Need to get it!
Here is the deal everyone. I am a long time computer user. Have built my own, purchased ones from others, purchased OEM, the like. Everyone including myself have and do gripe about rights. However, when it comes to our personal right, we want them protected. We don't want anyone to steal what we have, developed, invented, etc. period. Yet when a company like Microsoft, who by the way I have not liked because how large and powerful of a grip they have on the computer world, has utilized the free interprise system to become who they are just like the rest of us in business strive to do, we kick and scream unfair. Anyone out to make money would not kick and scream if they could figure out a way to become as successful.
Now with that said, CIP is an important process to product improvement to the consumer. Remember the first windows, even before, MSDOS? Bad stuff and others in the market had better. However, Gates made mistakes, did his home work, improved the product, hired people, played the game hard, and didn't rest on his hind end while others slacked off, and don't forget getting some breaks, which is business. Learn why Toyota is smoking the auto industry, learn why Harley Davison almost went under and you will understand my point. Coupled CIP with production price advantages and that is what drives producing a product that sells. Windows sells because it works. People pirate it because it works. Microsoft protects its product because that is business. If you don't, your soon gone by some other who does not want to play by the rules. We have countless foreign and domestic interests doing so by the minute. Just think about the volume of data that streams across servers around the world that is pirated music, video, software and case in point is closed.
So, with that, Microsoft seems to be doing two things. Find a way to seek out stolen property. Make an offer that is fair and simple. Would I try to figure out how to keep others from stealing something I sell? Damn right! If they have figured a way to shut down a pirated version of their product then you have to hand it to them in doing so. As for an innocent buyer of a used product, I can sympathize however that is not Microsoft's problem to fix. They are offering simply that if you own a legitimate piece of our product we will support it and give something in return for more than just a year or two. Think of How many companies you buy from and apply that to them. Not very many measure up. Then they ask to have feed pack about their product and how it is used to help them improve and produce new products. That is done by every successful company in this country and you don't sign an agreement with them to get it.
So what else does the MS Validate tool also provide for you? A lot, free upgrades. In return they want to know how you use your computer so they can improve the product for their customers which is you. Develop new applications for their customers that make their customer's lives more productive. And, they are asking for feed back when the product fails. Remember there is no perfect product out there that you will ever buy. In return, they produce a knowledge base to help you with the problem even when it is not caused by their product. There are countless software companies running on a shoestring out there trying to get your money who don't work with Microsoft or partner and pay for their advice and develop defective software you pay good money to buy. That is not Microsoft's problem.
So the choice is yours. Have integrity, be honest, play the game fair, and pay the fees to get what you pay for. There is no free lunch in this world. Help Microsoft or any other software company you have free choice to buy from help you, or D.Y.I your IT issues and live with the results. Without consumer involvement and feedback, a legitimate consumer driven company cannot truly develop or sell what the consumer wants and improve it for their customer.
